About Restaurante Bago

Gentle lighting and a relaxed ambiance invite patrons to linger over plates that blend creativity with regional ingredients. The interplay between traditional Portuguese flavors and subtle contemporary touches can be gleaned through dishes that reveal thoughtful execution without excessive complexity. Familiarity balances innovation here—while some items charm with unexpected accents, others retain the straightforward appeal diners often seek. Conversations hum amid the modestly elegant decor, creating a pleasant backdrop that neither overwhelms nor fades into the background.

The Restaurante Bago menu presents an interesting spectrum, showcasing local seafood alongside meat preparations that speak to the island’s culinary heritage. A notable highlight includes a fish dish where freshness distinctly comes through, although certain accompaniments occasionally border on cautious rather than bold. Observations on Restaurante Bago reviews often mention a desire for more adventurous seasoning, yet this restraint allows the quality of ingredients to take center stage. Photographs visible online tend to capture appealing plating and generous portions, capturing the essence of what diners can anticipate in person.

Staff members demonstrate attentiveness that is steady and professional, managing to strike a balance between friendly and unobtrusive. The overall experience is one of solid reliability, with few missteps but also few surprises. Given its setting along Estrada Regional 223 136, 9370-237 Estreito da Calheta, Portugal, expectations lean towards a quietly confident neighborhood restaurant rather than a destination that redefines the local scene. Value aligns well with the quality offered, making it a reasonable choice when exploring this part of the island, though more distinctive elements might enhance its long-term impression.

Atmosphere is amazing ! Is very quiet and peaceful. It’s a bit difficult to get a table tho! Just do a reservations in advance, there are only few tables there. The deserts all homemade and were delicious. The duck was not really my type but still was good. If you’re looking for something unique and picturesque this is the place.

It’s a very nice and quiet place, lovely view. The dishes were nice and good, even though I’ve had better at the island. Service friendly. Perhaps it’s a little bit overpriced. Just after we finished main course, we were a bit forgotten. The Fanal wine is very good, however the price of €9 per glass is not very Madeira friendly and should be half the price to make it more accessible. I would definitely return more often with my guests that visit me, if this would be the case.

The food was absolutely delicious. The waiter is very friendly and kind. The view is the best. Beautiful setting on the terrace under the vines. Reservations are needed.

We visited this beautiful restaurant 2 nights ago and it was an absolute pleasure, our favourite of our holiday to Madeira. Beautiful terrace overlooking the vineyard and the sea, great place to watch the sunset. Food matched the stunning location and was absolutely delicious! The cod starter, the scabbard fish main and the chocolate pudding were particular highlights. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful evening and in particular front of house Monica. We were sad we were unable to return before we departed as the restaurant was fully booked but look forward to returning some day!

Beautiful dinner with a great view. The food is absolutely 10/10, the apple and salted caramel cheesecake is TO DIE FOR!!! The pea soup with cod dumplings are the best start. The red meat was very tender and soo flavorful. The chicken was juicy as well, all of the flavors of each meal are perfect for one another. The dessert…. the cheesecake is amazing and so light without being overly sweet!

That restaurant is a positive surprise. Doesn't look like much from the street, but offers great local food with a touch of extra. Great seating on the patio with a view of the vineyards and the sea. Service is friendly. Table can be booked online - works like a charm (in contrast to some other places on Madeira)

This restaurant is superbly situated with a direct ocean view from the terrace. Regrettably, a severe storm struck while we were staying there, preventing us from enjoying the view for an extended period. While the menu is uncomplicated, it offers something for everyone. I sampled the scabbardfish in cider, which had an oddly sour taste for my liking, but my boyfriend's choice of pork was exceptional, boasting a tender texture reminiscent of beef cheek. Additionally, the pumpkin "cappuccino" with lime and coconut and the cucumber soup with apple were delightful. The staff was also quite friendly. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.

We just had the most amazing Diner. The food menu is the best one I have seen in Madeira. Only a few options per course and it's still so hard to choose because everything sounds delicious. Especially the parrot fish was our of this world. Service was also top notch and very friendly. Top that with the most beautiful view and a nice outside terrace. Highly recommend this place and you definitly need to reserve seats.
